Brian
is a full-time designer and fine furniture craftsman based in midcoast Maine
near Camden/Rockport. An honors graduate of Parnham College (Dorset, UK),
he
studied under the renowned designer
John
Makepeace and principal Robert Ingham. He is the 5th from
only a total
of 8 Americans to have attended this distinguished program. A member
of the Furniture
Society, he has taught in the Wood Programs at San Diego State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Penland
School of Crafts, and on many occasions at Anderson
Ranch Arts Center.
Brian is currently Fellowship Coordinator and teaches in the 12 Week Intensive at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. In December 2007, he taught a highly successful master class on Veneering at the Centre for Creative Industries, Adam Smith College in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he returns again this winter for his second time.
His work has been exhibited and published in wide-ranging venues. Hourglass, a platform bed featuring parquetry veneers, was commissioned for Finding
Balance, an exhibition curated by James
Surls, for the Houston
Center for Contemporary Craft. The exhibition was accompanied by a book,
with essays by James Surls, Charmaine Locke, and Leonard Schlain, and may be ordered from the University
of Texas Press.
Prince Albert, a fanciful interpretation of a Queen Anne Highboy was featured in the June 2005 issues of American Craft and Woodworking Magazines.
Brian is represented by The Guild and soon, you will find his furniture at The Grovewood Gallery, Asheville, NC.
